They say persistence pays off, and few examples prove it better than a determined little Labrador showing us how it’s done.
Gracie, a four-month-old Labrador puppy from Jupiter, Florida, had an important job—fetching her dad’s newspaper. Normally, this task was a breeze for the tiny pup, but Sundays posed an extra challenge: the newspaper was packed with ads, inserts, and comics, making it much heavier than usual.
But Gracie wasn’t about to let that stop her. Her determination led to one of the cutest moments ever captured on video, and her dad couldn’t have been prouder.
A Proud Dad’s Delight
Gracie took her daily duties seriously. Every morning, she retrieved the newspaper from the front yard of her family’s home in Jupiter.
However, on this particular Sunday, the bulky, plastic-wrapped paper tested her limits. But when her dad, Peter Schulz, called out, “Gracie, the newspaper,” she bolted out the door, tail wagging, ready to tackle the task.
Gracie’s first attempt at grabbing the newspaper revealed just how tough her mission would be. The thick bundle was almost too much for her little mouth to handle. But Peter cheered her on, calling, “Bring it here, Gracie! I know, it’s a big one today—it’s Sunday’s paper!”
A Test of Determination
Gracie didn’t give up. She paused briefly on the grass, as if plotting her next move, and launched another attempt. It was as though she thought, “You won’t beat me that easily!”
Still struggling, Peter stepped in to offer a little help. “Here, let’s do this,” he said, tugging on the edge of the plastic. “Grab it like this. Pull!”
But Gracie wasn’t about to take the easy way out. She tried again—and this time, she succeeded.
Though the weight of the newspaper caused her to stumble a few times, Gracie never gave up. Finally, she brought the paper to her dad, her tail wagging triumphantly. No one was prouder than her—except Peter, of course.
Following in Big Paw Prints
Gracie comes from a family of hardworking dogs. At the time, she lived with her mom, Maddie, and grandma, Dakota, both of whom had been fetching the newspaper for years. Now, it was Gracie’s turn to carry on the tradition.
Her desire to be just like the “big dogs” drove her success. A video titled “Gracie wants to beat the bigger Labradors to the paper every morning” shows how she always managed to reach the paper first, eager to please her dad with the day’s fresh news.
A Lesson in Persistence
Today, Gracie is all grown up, and Sunday newspapers are no longer a problem for her. She’s likely an inspiration to other little Labradors learning the ropes.
But her journey to success was paved with determination and countless attempts. Gracie’s story reminds us that persistence, no matter how small, can overcome even the heaviest challenges.
